After lunch we took the bus to the Palace of Hollyrood, which marked the end of the Royal Mile since the 14th century. The queen spends one week here each summer. The Scottish Royalty preferred living here than Edinburgh castle. There was an audio guide, which helped to make the palace interesting. We did not go through the queen’s gallery.Royal Palace. This is where Scottish royalty lived when they were not at Palace of Holyroodhouse, which they preferred. There is Mary Queen of Scots room where she gave birth in 1566 to James VI of Scotland, who later became James I of England.
Ruins of 12th century Augustinian Abbey (which was here before the Palace)
Queen’s bathhouse
Tour of city
We sat on the tour bus for a couple of hours and looked at the city and learned about different places of history. We went back to the B & B for the evening and had snacks we had bought.
It was interesting to go on the Royal Mile after reading about in so many books
