Topeka to Springfield, Halloween

Oct 31 (Friday) Topeka (Halloween)

We left Colby about 10 AM (after I went back to the museum). It was another warm sunny day. We drove about 325 miles to Topeka Walmart and when we got there it was very crowded. The security guard said we were only allowed to park at one end of the lot and that end was crowded. We decided to go to a campground and drove about 4 miles to a KOA. It was not that great a campground but we were glad to settle in for the night especially since it was getting dark. It was Halloween and we had 5 kids come looking for treats and we did not have any treats to give them so gave them some money. There were very few decorations putout for Halloween.

Nov 1 (Saturday) Linn Valley Lakes
There was a problem with the stabilizers so Ches oiled and fixed them before we left. It was sunny when we left Topeka but got very foggy as we drove. We only drove about 100 miles to a membership park (we only pay $10). When we got there about 12:30 PM and it was cloudy and cool. As I went for a walk the sun came out and it got quite warm. I vacuumed and did laundry and enjoyed a nice relaxing day with not too much driving. This campground is a little strange you come in a gate with a guard and the campground is all by itself about ½ a mile away from the office and amenities like the tennis court and miniature golf and there is a town all around after the gate with the guard.

Nov 2 (Sunday) Springfield

Ches finished fixing the stabilizers and we drove about 110 miles to Springfield. It was foggy in the morning and became warm, sunny later. We met our friends Dot and Floyd at Strafford campground. It was great to see them again. After visiting Floyd helped Ches try to figure out what was wrong with the satellite receiver. They managed to get it to work by hooking it up directly from dish to receiver. I went for my walk around the town of Stafford, which is where the campground is located. Everything was closed in the few buildings in the town and most of the houses were very small war time houses. The trees were beautiful though, lots of oranges and reds.
