Brownsville, Padre Island and Dog Races

Brownsville

We spent and very full and nice day with Linda, Jerry going to Brownsville, Padre Island, and dog races. We drove about 60 miles to Brownsville. We drove past a lot of nice farm land on the drive I was disappointed the town was like a cross between a Mexican town and the slum part of downtown Vancouver. There were bars on the store windows, it was Sunday and a lot of the shops were closed. The only real attraction is the zoo, but we did not go there. I did not take any pictures there.

Padre Island

The drive to Padre Island was nice with lots of nice homes, hotels, and apartments. There were lots of tacky tourist places
Bridge to Padre Island

We drove to Padre Island about 30 miles away. We had lunch at a restaurant called DIRYT AL’S which had been recommended by several people as the place to go. The oysters and shrimp were good, but not particularly outstanding.

We stoped at a visitor's office and saw these nice sand sculptures.

Unfortunately the fog came in

We drove and walked along the ocean and it has beautiful white sandy beaches

We stopped at a place with nice little tourist shops and a long Warf

Dog Races
We drove to the dog races on the way back. This track is not nice like the ones in Florida, no flowers, fountains or nice landscaping. The only thing that was nice was that you could get really close to the track and see the dogs well. We did not do very well and mostly lost, but had fun anyway.
