Willet-Holthuysen Museum Mansion/canal boats

Canal boats
The weather was very changeable from sunny, to cloudy, to windy, to rainy and back again. We bought a pass to ride the boats on the canal. We rode on all three canal routes, spent many hours just riding along and looking at the buildings. This was a narrated boat tour so we learned a lot of interesting facts. Along many of the canals there are houseboats that are moored there all the time, many were pretty rusty and old looking. Most of the houseboats had lots of plants on them including quite large trees.

Willet-Holthuysen Museum MansionThis 17th century mansion is located on a section of canal where the rich live, although it does not look that impressive on the outside it was beautiful on the inside. Some of the rooms were set up as they were originally like the kitchen, dining room and master bedroom. Other rooms were absolutely full of antique furniture, ornaments, statues, paintings, china, etc. There was also a nice landscaped garden in the back of the house with beautiful statues. There was history in each of the rooms so you could visualize how the family lived in the 17th century.
